Disclaimer
Not for safety-of-life use. Band-condition outlooks on this Site are estimates from a simple model. Weather and space-weather information is a convenience summary that can be delayed, incomplete or wrong. For emergencies call 911. For official warnings use the National Weather Service, NOAA Weather Radio and local officials, and for space weather the NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center.
Informational purposes only
Ham Band Report is a private hobby and informational website operated by Randy L. Losey. Everything on the Site is offered for general information, education and entertainment. It is not professional, technical, legal or safety advice.
Propagation estimates
The HF band outlook, "conditions index," estimated MUF and S-meter style readings are computed by Ham Band Report from public solar and geomagnetic indices using a deliberately simple rule-of-thumb model. They describe typical mid-latitude conditions and ignore many real factors (your location, path, season, time of day, antennas, power, noise and local conditions). Actual conditions can differ greatly. Use them as a rough guide only.
Regulatory information
The band plan chart, reference tables and FCC headlines are summaries prepared in good faith from public sources such as 47 CFR Part 97 and the Federal Register. Rules change and summaries can contain errors or omit details such as power limits, sharing requirements and regional restrictions. The official rules in the Electronic Code of Federal Regulations and FCC orders always control. Each licensee is responsible for operating within his or her privileges.
Satellite data and imagery
Satellite positions, footprints, ground tracks and pass times are estimates computed with the SGP4 model from published orbital elements that may be hours or days old. Satellites maneuver, decay and change operating schedules, so actual positions and times can differ. Transmitter frequencies come from the volunteer SatNOGS database and may be outdated or wrong, and transponders are often off. Check current status with the operator or AMSAT before transmitting, and transmit only within your license privileges. GOES satellite images can be several hours old; they are not official NOAA products as displayed here.
