SKYWARN storm spotting
SKYWARN is the National Weather Service's volunteer storm-spotter program, and many spotters are radio amateurs. Trained spotters report hail, wind damage, flooding and rotation to their local NWS office, often by ham radio nets when phones are down.
- Find free spotter training on the NWS SKYWARN page.
- Check in with your county's ARES or SKYWARN net during severe weather.
- Report what you see, where and when. Never put yourself in danger.
